BMW and Mercedes are speeding up their activations towards use of automatic brakes which should reduce the front-end crashes. BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-Class are now two models with most reliable system which uses cameras, sensors and lasers to anticipate the potential crash and slow down the car to prevent it.
The system is not new however it was set as the optional equipment meanwhile now in some models in Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Honda is becoming standard.
According to David Zuby, executive vice president and chief research officer at Arlington, Virginia-based IIHS, “Reducing the speed reduces the amount of damage that occurs to both the striking and struck cars and reduces injuries to people in those cars.”
The US research group is strating to rank cars in case of systems they have and use.
