There’s been a time since we’ve last heard news about Lotus. I believe we all remeber their best cars like Lotus Omega, series of Esprit or Elise. Each of them presented outstanding performance and also specific design. One of them was also used by James Bond in a movie. However on the other side the company for a long time suffered financial problems due to poor sales and had many different owners. Last owner Proton was recently bought out by DRB Hicom.
Former CEO Dany Bahar wanted to reborn the brand by introducing new Esprit with 4.8 V8 engine. However his project has stopped once Bahar was fired by for improper spending practices. This meant there was no clear future vision for the brand.
However after todays interview made by Australia’s Motoring with Alastair Manihera brand manager for Lotus Australia and New Zealand we can still have hope. He stated that „contrary to popular belief the factory is keeping its options open (regarding a new Esprit). It’s extremely exciting – we’d love to see it. But as far as what happens and when, we still need to find out from the factory where they’re going to go.”
So we need to be patient to see new Esprit.
